Eleven years ago today I married Marty. It was a small wedding at The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The only people there were my mom, Marty's mom and sister, Marty's dad and stepmom, and two of his friends. The ceremony was short and sweet. I wore a short dress with a beaded jacket and carried some flowers we bought at the chapel. Marty had on a wool suit and his tie had dice on it! The suit was really hot and it was about 112 degrees in Las Vegas that day! Marty was pretty miserable. I probably wouldn't remember the ceremony at all but Mom surprised us and bought the video and I am so thankful for that. We watch it every once in a while. The best part of the video is where Marty's sister is staring out the window while we are saying our vows. It cracks us up every time! And then at the end of the video you can see Marty's dad wipe away a tear.
This picture is one of my favorites from that day. After the wedding we all went to the Luxor Hotel and had a few drinks and this was taken there. It was a fun weekend but Marty and I lost every penny we had taken. In fact, we had to have my mom come pick us up in her cab to go to the airport because we didn't have any money to pay for a cab!
After the wedding, when we got back to Texas, we had a reception party with some of our friends. And then just a few days later, we packed up everything and moved to Nova Scotia, Canada and started our life together. That was a fun adventure and a story for another time.
A lot of people wonder how Marty and I make it work because we are SO different! Really it's not hard at all. We have just learned to accept our differences and love each other for them (or in spite of them!). We have been blessed beyond measure with our children and our business. I can't wait to see what the next 11 years have in store!
A BIG SURPRISE!
Marty is pretty excited about whatever we are doing today. I have no idea what it is. My mom is coming over at 2:00pm to watch the kids and we are going somewhere. He said we should be home by 8:00pm so I know it's not an overnight thing. All he has told me is to be hungry and to wear something nice. And that it's somewhere we've never been. Hmmmm... No idea!
