Our final day of camping! We got up early and the kids played around by our cabin while we packed everything up. Then we headed over to have breakfast with the church group.
After breakfast, we told the kids we would hike up the mountain. So we finished loading the car then headed to the trail.
The hike up was really pretty. We stopped several times to look at the view of the lake.
And Austin spotted this cactus. He thought the middle part looked like a heart. Marty thought the cactus looked like a person.
There were some difficult parts to the trail but the kids did really well and we made it to the peak pretty quickly.
Lauren said she was "king of the world!!" ... it was really cute. Here is a picture from Johnson Peak. The Lake was really gorgeous.
And then we started our descent. To get down, there was a different trail than we used to get up so we just followed the signs. Seemed pretty easy...
...Until we got to THIS sign! It clearly says to go straight ahead. Well ... it LIED! Straight ahead was not a path. In fact, straight, right and left ... not a path. And we didn't want to hike back up the mountain so we decided to just make our own trail. We went through lots of sticker bushes. It was NOT fun. We were lost for a good hour.
But if you keep walking down a mountain, eventually you will get to the bottom ... and we did. We ended up on this beach. The problem was that we had no idea where our car was in relation to the beach. So we took a guess and 20 minutes or so later, our car magically appeared. We had good luck! And so ended our 3-day camping adventure. Ahhh ... home to a clean, hot shower!
Of course we need some music and I can't end my posts about our camping trip to Possum Kingdom Lake without playing the song written about the lake! Here are The Toadies: Possum Kingdom
What a fun story and great photos Robyn. Sounds like you had a total blast.
ReplyDeleteGood to see some Canadian-wear still being worn after all this time. Looks like you had a great time. I love seeing the warm-weather pics when we're having a snow day today! Hope to send off a note for the holiday, but we're running slow this year, so who knows!
