Just like old times!

My college roommate, Mindy, called me yesterday and said that one of our friends from A&M was in town and asked if I wanted to go out with them. How could I say no? It's been over 15 years since I've seen Michael. So we planned to meet at Pappadeaux at 7pm. Amazingly, I was running early and when I was almost to the restaurant, Mindy called and said they would be about 15 minutes late. That left me with 30 minutes. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink and then some guy from Boston decided he needed to talk to me. I finished my drink and Boston asked if I wanted another ... well, of course! And at about the very second it arrived, my friends walked in and rescued me. LOL! I thanked Boston and left. Mindy and Michael laughed at me and said that some things never change. I told them that it was their fault. I mean, don't leave me in a bar by myself for half an hour! I told Marty this morning that some guy had bought me a drink. All he said was, "Idiot!" and laughed.

Here's a picture of the three of us. I think we look better now than we did in 1988!

Since Marty was out with his friend last night, my mom came over and watched the kids. (Thanks Mom!!) I was trying to explain to her who Michael was and then I remembered that I had a photo album from my freshman year at A&M. There are lots of pictures of me and Michael and Mindy in it. So I decided to take the photo album with me to the restaurant. Lots of good laughs were had over the pictures. Here are a few. I'm not denying that I drank in college, but in the one with me and the bottles, I had actually not been drinking. That was me pretending to be drunk. And I have no idea where the alcohol came from ... I mean alcohol was strictly prohibited from the dorm rooms at A&M. ;-)
Mindy and I didn't know each other before we were assigned to live in a dorm room together so we told Michael the story of the first time we met. First impressions are pretty funny. I went down to A&M early and got most of my stuff organized, bed made, clothes hung up and all that stuff and then I went to Fish Camp for a few days. While I was gone, Mindy moved in and decided that I was a snobby rich girl because I had lots of shoes and my clothes were all neatly hung up and who knows why else. She says her theory was confirmed when I showed up with two little Mexican boys walking behind me carrying my suitcases. I gave them each some money and said thanks. (Actually, the boys were hanging out in the parking lot trying to make money from all the college kids moving in. I had not slept that night and decided a couple of bucks was well worth not having to carry my suitcases up the stairs!) And my first impression of Mindy was, "Oh my God! I have to live with a dork!" When I walked in, she was listening to an OMD tape and studying! School hadn't even started yet and she was sitting at her desk listening to some awful music and studying!! Mindy claims she was just writing a letter but I still have my doubts.
Obviously, everything worked out between us. We were roommates for our first two years at A&M and are still good friends almost 20 years later. Michael is the cousin of one of our friends who lived in our dorm so we saw him a lot and Mindy became really good friends with him and his whole family.
How about some music? Let's go back a few years. This is LL Cool J: I Need Love. For unknown reasons I memorized every word to this song at the end of my senior year of high school and would often "impress" Mindy with my rapping skills (yeah right!). To this day, I still know every word. How sad is that? Seems like I could lose that knowledge and make room in my brain for more important things.
