Finally!

I created this layout in November of 2004. It was one of my first digital heritage layouts and is still one of my favorites. I submitted it to Legacy Magazine on November 9, 2005 and they accepted it for publication a few days later. I was so excited because it would have been my first page to ever be published. But time went on and the publishers at Legacy changed and this page never made it into the magazine ... that is ... until now! A full year later (two years after I created the page), this layout is in the current October/November 2006 issue of Legacy Magazine. And as an added bonus, my good friend Christine (Fiddlette) is in the same issue with me!

This is my great-grandfather. He died when I was only 5, but I remember him very clearly. He was always laughing and no one could ever take him seriously! My dad told me this story about the horse and buggy and it's just so funny to me because I can imagine him saying that! Hopefully the part about shooting the horse was a joke!!! The bottom picture is my great-grandmother in George's buggy.
The journaling reads: George would take Edna out on dates in South Saginaw in his shiny buggy. This fancy vehicle had red wheels and was pulled by "Maude" the horse. George often told people, "Before I married Edna, I had so many women in the buggy, I had to ride the horse!" The buggy was his pride and joy until he got his first car. Then he had no use for Maude and asked his father-in-law to shoot the horse!
Background papers and staples are by Kristie David; Shabby Smiles kit. I made George's signature by scanning his actual signature then creating a brush in Photoshop and stamping it on the page. The faded pictures of Edna and George were achieved by using different opacity levels. I made the horse sketch and carriage brushes from images downloaded from the Internet. Fonts are Dirty Ego and My Old Remington.

  1. I love the layout! The photos in a series at the bottom give the illusion of motion! The journaling is a hoot! (Poor horse)!
