Happy Campers!

Marty signed us up for a camping trip with some other families from our church. It sounded like fun. We have been "camping" a couple of times in Arkansas. And we don't sleep in a tent. We have always had a nice cabin that was pretty much like a hotel ... nice beds, fresh linens and towels, a nice kitchen and a cute fireplace. Fun times. But this place was different. We were told to bring sheets and towels and stuff which seemed odd to me but I went along with it. How bad could it be?

Here we are on the way to Possum Kingdom Lake. The kids were testing out the DVD for the first time since we got the car in April.

And Marty and I were trying not to be blinded by the sun!

And, yes, it's perfectly safe to make the driver take a picture while trying to concentrate on the road. That ... and texting while driving ... perfectly acceptable! :-)

After a couple of hours in the car ... and the worst Whataburger meal of all time ... we arrived at Camp Ray Bean which is part of Camp Grady Spruce. And it was COLD! In the dark, the cabins didn't look too bad upon first glance. We arrived late and just threw our junk in the cabin and headed over to join the other people for s'mores. BRRRRR! The kids had fun roasting marshmallows but only Austin likes to eat them so Marty and I ended up eating way too many s'mores because Lauren and Nick and Mackenzie kept making them and not eating them.

We didn't stay too long at the campfire because it had been a long drive and it really was cold and we wanted to get settled into our cabin. Well, it was ... um ... less than we were expecting! LOL! The cabins sleep 10 and are actually designed as lodging for kids at summer camp. There were 2 bunks and 2 other beds downstairs and 4 more beds upstairs. All were twin beds, So Marty and I shoved a couple of the beds together and took the mattresses off of the extra 2 beds so that our bed was a little softer than just a thin mattress.

And then we had a look around. Oh my! The bathroom was really just gross! Everything clashed which was actually the best part. The toilet was just sub-standard. YUCK! I got a nice quad workout from all of the hovering I had to do all weekend. :-) But I think the grossest thing was the shower. Marty and I decided everyone would just stay dirty all 3 days we were there.

Day 1, we all headed to bed at about 9:30. Needless to say, I was not thinking this would be a fun trip. Stay tuned for Day 2. Will it get any better or will happyrobyn complain for 3 days in a row?

We need some music. How 'bout a campfire song? Here's Joan Baez: Kumbaya
